What does it cost to join the Canadian Marketing Association?
CMA is a corporate association that is retained on behalf of your organization. Members pay annual dues which are calculated on a sliding scale based on your organization's annual revenue in Canada. Access our online application which includes a full dues chart.
I would like to join as an individual, not on behalf of my company. Can I do this?
In most cases, membership can only be retained on behalf of the organization that you are employed by. Self employed/non corporate memberships are available but restricted to non-corporate individuals (freelancers, consultants, students, etc.).
I work for a CMA member company, yet I don't receive any of the regular communications that other employees seem to get. Why is this and can I receive these CMA communications as well?
CMA membership includes one Voting Member representative plus, for each $2000 of dues, one Complimentary Corporate Member representative. Voting Members and Complimentary Corporate Members receive ALL CMA communications (including Member Bulletins, e-Communicator Newsletter, Marketing Council resources, and the Weekly Watching Brief.) These members also have full access to the CMA website. For a fee of $350 each, Additional Corporate Members can be added to a corporate membership and will receive access to all CMA communications.
What are the benefits of CMA membership?
Access our online Membership Information Presentation which outlines the benefits of CMA membership.
My organization is based in the United States, however we market or would like to begin to market our products/services in Canada. How would CMA membership benefit us?
A number of our members are based in the United States and if maintaining close ties to the local Canadian market is important, CMA membership is something you should consider.
CMA membership will help you develop the trust and confidence of the Canadian government, media and consumers as you move forward with your marketing efforts in Canada. As a CMA member, your organization can utilize our consumer confidence programs such as Look for the Logo, Operation Integrity, and our Do not contact service.
CMA will also provide your firm with a competitive advantage through breaking information specific to the Canadian market - market restrictions, trends, strategies and technologies. Furthermore, CMA creates a network for marketers to forge relationships and develop business in Canada.
How will CMA membership save money for my organization?
CMA members save 15% - 40% off the price of CMA and other Association events and resource materials such as:
- Discounted price to attend CMA Conferences, Seminars & Luncheons
- Reduced price to exhibit at CMA's annual National Convention
& Trade Show - Discounted price for CMA research materials & reference books
The typical marketer saves over $4,000 annually. For example, if three people at your firm attended a sampling of CMA events over the next year your savings would be as follows:
| Event | Non-Member | Member | Savings |
| CMA National Convention | $1495 x 3 = $4485 | $1250 x 3 = $3750 | $735 |
| CMA Conferences | $695 x 3 conf. x 3 = $6255 | $495 x 3 conf. x 3 = $4455 | $1,800 |
| CMA Seminars | $595 x 3 semin. x 3 = 5,355 | $395 x 3 semin. x 3 = $3,555 | $1,800 |
| Research Materials | 2 at $600 x 3 = $3,600 | 2 at $250 x 3 = $1500 | $2,100 |
| Total | $28,920 | $19,536 | $9,384 |
I am a student and would like to join the CMA. Is this possible?
Yes. If you are a full-time student in a Canadian post-secondary institution you can join CMA as a student member.
Is the Canadian Marketing Association affiliated with the Direct Marketing Association (DMA) based in the U.S.?
CMA is not affiliated with the DMA.
Can I apply for CMA membership on-line?
Yes! Simply access our online membership application.
I need business advice for my company. Does the CMA provide this?
CMA does not provide specific business advice, however there are several ways in which you and your organization can access valuable information through involvement with the CMA, such as:
- Networking with other members by attending CMA's wide range of seminars, breakfasts, lunches and full-day conferences. Sign up for a CMA event and check out our schedule of upcoming events.
- Exchanging knowledge on specific marketing issues and networking with peers by getting involved with one of our Marketing Councils.
- Getting information on legislation guidelines, market changes and government rulings through regular bulletin & briefs. Members can also access this information on the CMA website. (You must be a member to access the entire site).
In 1998, the Canadian Marketing Association (CMA) changed its name from the Canadian Direct Marketing Association (CDMA). Why?
Dropping the "Direct" from our name was an acknowledgement of the evolution of information-based marketing and of our association over the past several years. As our members' needs for an association that served a broader role became more apparent, CDMA assumed a new mandate to address the convergence of traditional and information-based marketing disciplines, and to reflect the changing needs of the marketing community. On October 23, 1998, the Canadian Marketing Association (CMA) was endorsed by members in a 94 per cent vote. While the association's core function did not change, our long-term plans include the continued expansion of our current councils and programming that will continue to reflect the integration of all marketing disciplines.
